June 2021
With Father’s Day approaching I thought I’d introduce you to my dad and explain the meaning behind the title of my blog.
My dad – Arnold Forsythe. He is quiet but, yet, he does have something to say. When he says something you should stop and listen. He’s got a dry sense of humour that is worth waiting for.
Dad desperately wanted a boy but I was as close as he came. Those of you who know the current-day-Joanne may be thinking “what??”. But as dad has said in the past “Joanne used to be pretty cool until she had to be pretty” (I may have paraphrased a bit ? ).
Over the years I have collected some emails in my inbox that I am going to keep there forever as they touched my soul (Heidi, Carmen, John, Dean . . .). Now I can add Mom to that list. After she read Dad the first blog entry on this site – where I describe the doctor saying that the chances of my getting both MF AND CML is one in a billion (my doctor MAY have been exaggerating slightly!?), this is mom’s email response:
“… Just finally read your blog to dad. … He said the reason you got this second disease is because you are one in a billion and you always have been. He also wanted you to know he got 3 woodticks on him during our walk this morning. Poor little fellow! …”.
Although I was interested in the info regarding the woodticks, I was moved to tears by the first part of the email. As I said, dad may not say much but when he does, stop and listen.
I am an interesting mix of both my mom and my dad but I think in the end I have a little more of Dad in me and that is ok-by-me!
(PS In the photo I think dad and I were trying to perfect a circus act!)

Dad suspected you may do something with that picture for Father’s Day. Brought tears and a smile. You will both always remember that day. Thanks Joanne!
Thanks for the time it took for you to find it Mom! And thanks for being you, Dad!❤️
He’s a wise man that Arnold. Love this picture. If I didn’t know better I would swear it was Ella!
You are right Mel – he IS a wise man!The quiet ones often are!
JoJo, I was glad to get the link to your blog.
I’m always here for you, whatever kind of support you need. You are one of my two unofficial little sisters after all.
Sandy xoxoxo
I appreciate you Sandy and I know you can spring into action when needed – I’ve seen that show!
All the best,
Jo
“Father knows best”…you my dear are one in a billion and we are all so fortunate to be in your circle?
I can’t wait until our circle gets even smaller – five more weeks!
Arnold is indeed a gentle and kind soul and to you my friend, I’m sending you peace and love….? Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your journey…❣️
Jill, you are a kindred spirit! ? ❤️
Love the photo from the Ridge days Josie and I’m glad Arnold is not on his motorcycle with you swaying above! Many fond memories for me seeing you two there.
Carmen – I don’t think either dad or myself would think it’s a good idea to attempt that trick again. That brings quite a picture to my mind!
Fond memories for sure!
Your dad (and your mom) are certainly the good ones, one (or two) in a billion themselves. I suppose the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree….
As always, sending love.
Connie
Many thanks Connie!
Oh Arnold! The “little fellow” ahah whatta cutie !
